“NEGLECTED” SCULPTURES TO GO ON SHOW
ART AUCTIONS ARE UNEARTHING THE WORK OF SCULPTURE ARTISTS FROM A BYGONE ERA THAT WERE ALMOST FORGOTTEN AND CERTAINLY UNDERVALUED – OFFERING THE OPPORTUNITY FOR A UNIQUE INVESTMENT
“I am certain that future research will reveal artists whose work and influence has been overlooked,” wrote Steven Sack in the catalogue for the landmark The Neglected Tradition exhibition, which was held at the Joburg Art Gallery in 1987.
The exhibition was a turning point; it was the first time a large scale exhibition of art by black artists was shown in a public museum.
